Immaculate Heart Of Mary Figure 14" Tall From The Joseph Studio

Immaculate Heart Of Mary Figure 14" Tall From The Joseph Studio

The Immaculate Heart of Mary represents the Virgin Mary as “Mother of Sorrows", the grieving mother with deep compassion for humanity.

The heart of Mary has much symbolism in the Catholic Church. Much of the present symbolism of the heart and its attendant devotions are derived from Marian apparitions, the appearances of the Virgin in the visions of the Saints and devotees. The Immaculate Heart is most often pictured aflame, ringed with roses or lilies which symbolize heavenly joy and purity. The sword piercing the heart illustrates verse 2:35 from the Gospel of Luke: “And a sword will go through your heart; so that the secret thoughts of men may come to light”

The heart pierced by seven swords represents the “seven sorrows” of the Virgin and symbolize the seven sorrowful events described in the New Testament. The seven swords are the emblem of Mater Dolorosa, or the Lady of Sorrows.
